Flat rates are earning opportunities that you can sign up for to earn a set, flat rate for your active time. These opportunities are offered occasionally in the Opportunity Center and sign-up is available on a first-come basis.
Here’s how flat rates work

- Go to the Opportunities section of your Uber Driver app to see flat rate periods available to you.
- Sign up for the flat rate periods that work best for you. These time slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to check the Opportunities section 24 hours before you want to deliver on flat rates.
- Go online at your signed up time to start your flat rate period.
- The time to receive a delivery request can vary – you may not begin receiving requests immediately at the start of your flat rate period. Once you start receiving requests, deliver as usual.
- When you’re on a flat rate, you can cancel one request per hour to remain earning at a flat rate. If you go over that, the flat rate period will end automatically.
- Once your flat rate period ends, you will return to standard delivery requests.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is active time?
Active time is the time a courier spends engaged on a given trip. It covers the time taken from accepting a request, driving to the merchant, picking up the order and delivering the order. It does not include the time spent online while waiting for a delivery request. In the event you accept a new trip before completion of an ongoing trip, active time is counted from acceptance of the first trip to completion of the second trip
How do flat rate earnings work?
Your flat rate is shown as an “active hour” rate and will be applied to the actual time you spend on -trip, from the time you accept a trip to when you complete it. You keep 100% of the customer tips you earn during these trips. Any applicable promotions earned on top of the flat rates are also yours. Example: A trip that takes 30 minutes from acceptance to completion, at a $20/active hour rate, means $10 earned + tips.
How do flat rate requests and earnings work?
Flat rate requests show you the estimated time we think the trip will take and the flat rate that will apply to the active time spent on-trip. Your earnings are calculated based on your actual active time (and not the estimate shown on the request) plus any tips you get on that trip.

What time counts towards the set flat rate?
Your earnings are calculated by applying the set flat rate to the actual time you spent on each delivery, from acceptance to completion (“active time”). It covers the time taken from accepting a request, driving to the merchant, picking up the order and delivering the order. It does not include the time spent online while waiting for a delivery request.
What about tips?
As always, you will receive 100% of customer tips. Any applicable promotions are an addition on top of the flat rate.

Can I reject or ignore trip requests when using flat rates?
You can only reject or cancel up to 1 trip per hour to maintain your flat rate. Declining or canceling more than one request within a 60-minute window will result in your flat rate period automatically ending, and you will return to receiving standard Uber Eats requests. While you will not be able to restart a flat rate once it has ended, you can visit the Opportunity Center to opt in to available future flat rate periods.
What happens if an eater or merchant cancels a delivery?
The same payment and cancellation terms apply to flat rate periods as they do for standard requests. For example, if an eater or merchant cancels a delivery and you’ve already picked up the order, you will generally be paid for all your time on-trip, up until it was cancelled. See Uber’s full terms for more information. Eater and merchant cancellations will not be counted towards your cancellation rate and will not impact your use of flat rates.
What happens if I cancel an order?
Canceling a trip that you initially accepted will count toward your 1 reject or cancel per hour for flat rates. It will also count towards your overall cancellation rate as shown in the profile hub of your Uber Driver app. Your cancellation rate may impact your ability to continue delivering with Uber and in some cities, your Uber Eats Pro status. Learn more about how cancellation rate is calculated here.
However, we know that things don’t always go as planned. That’s why we do our best to protect your cancellation rate when things aren’t in your control. For example, in the rare cases where you need to cancel for safety reasons, a merchant is closed, or delivery is picked up by another courier, these won’t count against your cancellation rate.
Uber may modify or end the flat rate offering at any time. Access to flat rates is not guaranteed and may be revoked. Uber’s other policies and terms continue to apply to the flat rate offering, including, for example, Uber’s Community Guidelines and your Platform Access Agreement. Uber reserves the right to delay payment for purposes of investigation and to withhold payment or deactivate account(s) if Uber determines in its sole discretion that a person has used or attempted to use flat rates mode in a fraudulent or abusive manner, or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
